Privacy Policy
Short version: We do not see your screenshots. Image processing happens entirely on your Mac. We collect the minimum data needed to sell you a license, validate it, and deliver updates. We do not sell or share your data with advertisers, and we do not use it to train AI models.
1. What this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains what data the SnapReady macOS application and the snapready.app website collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and what rights you have over it. It applies to both free-tier and paid users.
2. Data we collect
2.1 Data you give us
- Email address — provided at purchase (via Lemon Squeezy) or when joining the waitlist. Used for license delivery, license validation, transactional emails (receipt, refund confirmation), and product announcements (you can unsubscribe at any time).
- License key — generated by Lemon Squeezy at purchase. Stored locally on your Mac in the system keychain and sent to the licensing API for activation and periodic re-validation.
2.2 Data the app sends automatically
- License validation requests — your license key, a per-installation instance ID (a random UUID generated locally), and your email. Sent to the Lemon Squeezy licensing API on activation and periodically thereafter (roughly once every 3 days when online). No image content, no filenames, no usage statistics are included.
- Update checks — the app version and macOS version are sent to our update server (via Sparkle) to determine whether a new version is available. No personal data is included.
- Anonymous telemetry(optional) — if you leave telemetry enabled in Settings, we collect anonymous, aggregated usage signals via TelemetryDeck: which features are used (e.g. “exported with Twitter preset”), crash counts, and macOS version. These signals contain no personal identifiers, no image content, and no filenames. You can disable telemetry entirely in Settings → Privacy. It is off by default for free-tier users.
2.3 Data we do not collect
- Your screenshots or images — ever.
- Filenames, folder paths, or clipboard contents — the app processes them locally and does not transmit them.
- Browsing history, contacts, calendar, location, or any data from other apps.
- Device serial numbers or hardware identifiers beyond the random instance UUID.
3. How long we keep your data
| Data | Retention | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Until you ask us to delete it, or 24 months after your last license validation | License delivery, support, transactional emails |
| License key + instance IDs | Life of the license, plus 90 days after revocation or refund | Activation, re-validation, fraud prevention |
| Payment records | As required by Lemon Squeezy and applicable tax law (typically 7 years) | Legal and tax compliance (held by Lemon Squeezy as Merchant of Record) |
| Waitlist email | Until launch + 30 days, or until you unsubscribe | Pre-launch communication |
| Anonymous telemetry | Aggregated, no individual retention | Product improvement |
4. Where your data lives
- Lemon Squeezy (payment processor / Merchant of Record) — processes and stores payment and license data. Their infrastructure is in the United States. See Lemon Squeezy's Privacy Policy.
- TelemetryDeck (anonymous telemetry) — EU-based infrastructure, GDPR-compliant by design. See TelemetryDeck's Privacy Policy.
- Sparkle update server — hosted on a CDN. Update manifests contain no personal data.
- Your Mac — your images, presets, and settings never leave your device unless you explicitly export or share them.
5. Your rights
Regardless of where you live, we honour the following rights. If you are in the EU, UK, or California, these align with GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA respectively.
- Access — request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to fix inaccurate data (e.g. update your email address on a license).
- Deletion — ask us to delete your personal data. We will do so within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g. tax records held by Lemon Squeezy).
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection / restriction — object to processing or ask us to restrict it.
- Withdraw consent — for optional processing (telemetry, marketing emails), you can withdraw at any time in Settings or via unsubscribe links. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@snapready.app. We will respond within 30 days.
6. Cookies and website tracking
The snapready.app website uses only essential, first-party cookies (e.g. theme preference). We do not use third-party advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or fingerprinting. If we add analytics to the website in the future, we will use a privacy-respecting, cookie-free tool (such as Plausible or TelemetryDeck Web) and update this policy before doing so.
7. Children
SnapReady is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email privacy@snapready.app and we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced by email to the address on your license at least 30 days before they take effect. Minor changes (clarifications, formatting) take effect immediately when posted at snapready.app/privacy.
